ELIZABETH FRIEND HOYE FRIEND 1821-1902

BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH COMPILED BY RONN E FRIEND (2X great-nephew)

Daughter of John Friend, Jr. (1764-1849) and Elizabeth Ward Friend (1778-1845), first settlers of Sang Run, Allegany County (now Garrett) in 1799. The original John Friend Jr. home site and farm known as Friend's Delight were donated to Maryland in 2008 and designated as the Sang Run State Park in 2017.

Married (1) David Hoye (1815- 1849) on Aug 29, 1841at Sang Run. Of this union, five children:

1. Mary Elizabeth: b. 8 AUg 1842; d. 3 Sept 1903
2. William Harrison: b: 22 Jun 1844; d. 25 Jun 1908
3. Elijah: b. 10 Apr 1846; d. 26 Sept 1938
4. Benjamin Franklin: b: 23 May 1848; d. 30 Jul 1926
5. Sarah Catherine: b. 16 Aug 1849; d. 19 Sept 1916

Married (2) John Friend of Nickolas (1826-1900) on 15 May 1854 at Sang Run, her first cousin once removed. (John of Nicholas' grandfather Charles Friend and Elizabeth's father John Jr. Friend were brothers.) To this union four children:

1. Cornelia F.: b. Oct 1857; b. 15 Mar 1885
2. Joseph Dilly: b.11 Jun 1854; d. 17 Jun 1922; d. 17 Jun 1922
3. Lafayette Townsend: 11 Apr 1859; d 13 Feb 1915
4. Bertha A.: b. 1868; d. unknown
