My Dad was a strong man with a soft heart. If they had given out degrees for common sense he would have received a PHD. There was nothing he couldn't do. From gardening, fishing, cooking, dog training, remodeling and doing everything he could for my mother.
He was born in Spain in 1911, when he was 2 years old he came to the US with his family and settled in West Virginia. He grew up there eventually working in the coal mines at age 11. Once the mines closed down, all the families and friends moved to Detroit,MI to work at the auto factories and steel mills. He was a welder,and a tool and Dye maker. He worked for Ford's and also speciality shops. He joined the army and fought in WWII. He became a army corp of engineer's officer. His job was to build docks from shore into the ocean so the troop and supply ships could unload. He received numerous medals and citations for his work. He also received the metal of honor and a purple heart. During the war he married my mother and they lived in Texas until coming back to Detroit. He went to the steel mills and worked until he retired in 1972. During the early 70's he built a world class sail boat that received recognition from all the local newspapers and even Playboy magazine that did a photo shoot of a bunny climbing up the ladder of the sail boat. He is listed in the United States Boat builders log as the Master Boat builder of the vessel the "Sueno" (which means the dream in spanish).
He is missed by everyone,especially my mother, they were married for over 60 years. He was a inspiration to all. If you wanted something built or repaired, they always came to Uncle Joe. If I had listened to him years ago, I would have been in a different situation today. He always told me that I will know when the right person came along, and he was right, in fact, if it wasn't for her, I would have never known about this site. So Dad, we have her to thank and you would have loved her, she is your type of lady, very smart and wise in alot of things and she has a heart the size of yours.
