Liao Zhongkai, one of the revolutionary fathers of the Chinese Kuomintang, was a reformist figure in the Kuomintang. When Sun Yat-sen issued a joint declaration with the Soviet Union in January 1923, he sent Liao Zhongkai to have further consultations with the Soviet Union, while Chiang Kai-shek was sent to study the Soviet political and military system, and was assassinated in 1925.
