From the Morganton, NC News-Herald, 16 December 1920:
"Widow of Gabriel Piercy and a Respected Old Lady Passes to Rest; 84 Year old"
"Mrs. Linda Piercy, widow of Gabriel Piercy, died Saturday afternoon about 1 o'clock, death resulting from the injuries she received when she fell on the preceding Monday, both her right hip and arm having been broken.
Mrs. Piercy was 84 years old, probably one of the oldest women in the county. She had always lived here and knew the history of Morganton as few others. She was a Miss Steward, marrying in young womanhood a Mr. Brittain who died during the Civil War. Her second marriage was to Mr. Piercy. She had no children, her nearest relatives being a grand niece and a grand nephew, Mrs. E. C. Cochran and Mr. W. H. Young in Oklahoma. She had for many years made her home with a nephew of her husband, Mr. J.W. Piercy, and he and his family had cared for and looked upon her as one of their own blood. "Aunt Lindy" as she was affectionately known by many, was a good woman, trying always to do what was right and exemplifying by her life the virtues of Christian womanhood.
The funeral at the home Sunday afternoon was conducted by Rev. C. M. Pickens. She was tenderly laid to rest in the cemetery by the side of her husband, who died more than thirteen years ago."
