Paul Taylor Barlow, 82, passed away in his home surrounded by his loved ones, following a brief battle with cancer on January 10, 2022. We are devastated to see his journey abruptly end here on earth. However, we are pleasantly comforted to know that he will rejoin his lifelong love and sweetheart Maureen. They now will continue on their eternal journey in heaven. Can you imagine the wonderful reunion?
Paul was the 4th of 7 children, born May 26, 1939, in Salt Lake City, Utah to Ellen and Roy Barlow. He lived his early years in Monroe, Salt Lake City and Bountiful, where he met his High School sweetheart, Maureen Peterson. He was a member of the National Guard and played football at Southern Utah University (SUU) in Cedar City. Paul and Maureen were married in the Salt Lake City temple for time and all eternity on July 3, 1959. During their journey together they lived in Colorado, California, and Northern Utah, although Layton, Utah was home.
Paul labored for decades as a Brick Mason. His masonry was beautiful, meticulous and unrivaled. He was a sturdy leader and ran his own brick laying company "Barlow Masonry" for many years. He taught so many young men and women the value of hard work, and quality craftsmanship. Paul was an amazing example to those who worked for and with him. He taught all of his sons the trade and took many people from all walks of life under his wing as well. If you were willing to show up and learn he was willing to teach you!
Paul was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He loved spending time with his family camping, boating, golfing, Halloween parties, playing card games and our monthly family breakfasts. He is the chief, the "King of hearts" and our patriarch. He loved watching sports, especially the Utah Jazz and Broncos. He was always known for his little sayings: "if you ain't cheatin, you ain't tryin", "Potlicker", "chocolate milk turns iron in your blood to lead in your butt", "it's better to owe it, than to cheat you out of it", "good enough for the girls I go with", after a good slug to the shoulder - "that's nothing, wait ,'til you do something", but the latest saying has been "I have one foot in the grave and the other on a banana peel". He always made his presence known whether it was his Tarzan yell or his boisterous laugh, the grandkids loved it. We will miss his big bear hugs and his fierce competitive spirit.
Paul has shown unconditional love to everyone brought into his life, but nothing compared to his love for Maureen. He truly cherished her through the good and the bad and nursed her in her time of need. They were a perfect example of what true love was.
Paul's life will forever be cherished by his seven children, his 28 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren, his two siblings, two sister-in-laws and, brother-in-law.
Paul was proceeded in death by his one love and wife of over 50 years, Maureen; parents: Roy C. and Ellen Barlow; siblings; Elroy Barlow, Tom Barlow, Rich Barlow, Barbara Lamont. Great-grandson Easton Bossman.
