4424 Private A Webb,3rd (The Prince of Wales's) Dragoon Guards. The regiment deployed to South Africa for the Second Anglo Boer War, sailing on the Victorian on 22 Jan 1901. On arrival they were put into Colonel Bethune's brigade, in time to take part in the pursuit of the Boer commander De Wet. Colonel Bethune's force was then taken to the north-east of the Orange River Colony, and along with other columns operated there under General Elliot for the greater part of 1901. The regiment fought many sharp engagements in the Orange River Colony. Private Webb died of disease at 11 Stationary Hospital, Winburg, Orange River Colony.
