He was baptized on the 4th January 1846 at St. John the Baptist's Church, Hillmorton.

FATAL ACCIDENT - Coventry Standard - 23rd May 1851
*****************************************************
An inquest was held at the Crown Inn, Hillmorton, on view of the body of William Atkins, about six years of age, who died from injuries received on the 6th May. The deceased, with several other boys, was playing about the street, when Mr. Rathbone's wood carriage came by, to the tailpole of which they clung.

The man in charge drove the boys off, as he thought, but the little fellow, in haste to get away, put his foot upon the wheel and was drawn in between it and the body of the carriage. Both of his thighs and one of his arms were broken. He was carried to his father's house, close by, where he lingered until the ensuing Thursday, when he expired.

No blame could be attached to the driver of the wood carriage, and a verdict of "Accidental Death" was returned by the jury.
