Richard "Dixie" Banachowski, age 97, passed away on January 22, 2022, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio. He was born in Toledo on January 19, 1925, to Rose and Joseph Banachowski and was the youngest of 12 brothers and sisters. He married the love of his life, Luette O'Konski, on November 27, 1954, and recently celebrated 67 years as husband and wife. Dixie proudly served his county in the United States Army in France during World War II. He received a Purple Heart for his brave service. Dixie returned to Toledo and started his employment at Champion Spark Plug Corporation. He retired in 1981, then he and Luette relocated to Florida. Later they returned to the Toledo area to be closer to family. Dixie was a scratch golfer and enjoyed all aspects of the game most of his life, including three 'hole-in-ones'.

Dixie is survived by his loving wife, Luette; nephews and nieces, David (Cathy) Banachowski, Edward (Mary) Glowacki, Frank (Diane) O'Konski and Kathy Bucher; along with many other extended family members. He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings; and in-laws.

Family and friends may visit on Wednesday, January 26, 2022 from 2:00-8:00 p.m. at the W.K. Sujkowski & Son Funeral Home, 3838 Airport Hwy. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, January 27, 2022, with prayers in the mortuary at 1:00 p.m. followed by the Funeral Mass at 1:30 p.m. at St. Joseph Church, 104 West Broadway St., Maumee, Ohio. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Joseph Church, Maumee.
