Clif and his mother spent most of his formative years living with her parents in Wichita Falls, TX. Her father was Oscar Woodson Hines (1877-1940) and her mother was Fayne Smith Hines (1884-1964), and her father owned Hines Mortuary in Wichita Falls. Clif attended Wichita Falls High School and was on the Coyotes 1941 State Championship football team on which he played right end. In those days, players played both offense and defense and Clif was number 85 on that championship team.
After graduating high school, he was drafted into the Army and reported for duty on 31 Dec 1944. He began training in a tank destroyer battalion and was about to deploy to Europe when Germany surrendered. He was shipped across the country and trained on the Army's largest artillery piece, the 155mm 'Long Tom.' He was deployed to the Battle of Luzon with the 192nd Field Artillery of the 43rd Division and participated in the final phases of that battle. After Japan surrendered, Clif was sent to Japan with the 99th Evacuation Hospital and stayed in Japan for another year.
Upon returning to the United States, Clif attended the University of Texas on the G.I. Bill and graduated with a degree in history. There he met Mary Cloyes (1929-1979) of Pittsburg, Texas and they married in September of 1949. There were two sons from this marriage, James C Davidson and Thomas C Davidson. Clif and Mary Cloyes divorced and Clif remarried Kay Dillard Brewster in September of 1968. They were married for over 40 years. Kay had two sons by a previous marriage, Don and Michael Brewster, and Clif raised them as his own.
Clif Davidson spent his professional career as a traveling salesman, primarily for wholesale furniture manufacturers. In addition to spending time with this family, Clif was an avid (and excellent) golfer and fisherman.
