She died at 11:45 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 10, 2004, at the Levelland Nursing Home. Mrs. Lyon was born Dec. 3, 1918 in Memphis. In 1940, she moved to Sundown from Hall County and then to Levelland in 1953. She worked at Wacker's Variety Store for many years. She was dorm mother for Gillespie Hall at South Plains College. She retired in 1993. She was a charter member of the Second Baptist Church in Levelland.
She was preceded in death by a son, Don Cummins, in 1964. Survivors include two sons, Terry Cummins of Levelland, and Wayne Cummins of Austin; two daughters, Norene Stroud of El Paso, and Jana Bryant of Hattiesburg, Miss.; a brother, Ted Lockhart of Temple; a sis ter, Nornell Hopper of Headley; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter.
