Actor. He will be best remembered for his role as 'The Ferryman' in the Walt Disney action-adventure film classic, "Kidnapped" in 1960. The film which was directed by Robert Stevenson, and which also starred Peter Finch and James McArthur takes place in Scotland in 1751, when a young David Balfour is shanghaied aboard a ship where he meets a Jacobite rebel named Alan Breck Stewart with whom he escapes to the Scottish Highlands, dodging the redcoats. Born as Alexander Mackenzie in Glasgow, Scotland, he worked as a teacher in Clydebank, Scotland, until the age of sixty-one when he decided to pursue an acting career. He made his actual film debut in the role of 'Captain Taggart' the Skipper of the puffer ship, 'The Maggie' in Ealing Studio's comedy, "High And Dry" in 1954. Besides, "High And Dry" (1954), and "Kidnapped" (1960), his other film credits include, "Wee Geordie" (1955), "Prelude To Massacre" (1956), "The Kid From Canada" (1957), "Mad Little Island" (1958), "The Bridal Path" (1959), "The Battle Of The Sexes" (1960), "Greyfriars Bobby: The True Story Of A Dog" (1961), and "The Three Lives Of Thomasina" (1963). He passed away in his native Glasgow, Scotland, at the age of 80. His niece was the actress Effie Morrison who died in 1974. Both Alex Mackenzie and Effie Morrison are buried beside each other.
