Blues Musician. He got his nickname "Guitar Crusher" because as a bouncer in a New York club he sometimes resorted to unusual methods: he once used his guitar as a "truncheon" to kick rioting guests out the door. 1960 saw the release of his first single, "Cuddle Up." He toured with Ben E. King, the Drifters, and the Isley Brothers. In 1982 he came to Europe, where he was given the name "The Big Voice from New York." Here he played many major festivals with European and American artists such as Katie Webster, Reggie Moore, EB Davis, "Detroit" Gary Wiggins, and Chris Rannenberg, including the Berlin Blues Café, and became a fixture on the European blues scene. He was married to Mara von Hartz-Selby.
