Helen Jean Hawkins, 74, of Ellettsville passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, February 16, 2022 at her residence. Jean was born August 28, 1947 in Bloomington and was the daughter of the late James Sylvester and Grace Beatrice (Abrams) Carmichael. Jean graduated from Bloomington High School.
Jean retired from the Naval Avionics Center in Indianapolis. Jean loved Jesus and Mt. Pleasant Church where she loved to cook for meals and enjoyed Bible Study. She also enjoyed doing puzzles, visiting Gatlinburg, TN and collecting black bears.
Jean married Charles D. Hawkins on January 1, 1965 and they enjoyed 49 years of marriage before his passing in 2014. Together they had two children, Becky (Chuck) Glidden and Charles Randy (Paula) Hawkins; sister, Margie Thomas; 4 grandchildren, Amanda Jo (Jeff) Sparks, Sammi Jo (Matt) Fritch, Eric Scott "Scotty" Glidden, and Matt (Annie) Glidden; and 7 great grandchildren, Sienna "Gracie" Fritch, Abigail Lynn Fritch, Rose Glidden, Jasper Glidden, Coraline "Sam I Am" Fritch, Braxton Sparks, and Jeremiah Sparks along with several nieces and nephews.
Jean was preceded in death by her husband, parents and brother, Kenneth James Carmichael.
Visitation for Jean will be on Monday, February 21, 2022 from 4-8 pm at The Funeral Chapel of Powell and Deckard 3000 E. Third St. Bloomington and on Tuesday, February 22, 2022 from 10 – 11 am at Mt. Pleasant Christian Church 3100 W. Burma Rd. Gosport, IN 47433.
Services will be on Tuesday at 11 am at Mt. Pleasant Christian Church with burial to follow at the church cemetery.
