1944 - 2014

Charles D. Hawkins, 69, of Ellettsville, passed away on Monday January 13, 2014 at IU Health Bloomington Hospital. Charlie was born April 5, 1944 in Noblesville, Indiana and was the son of the late Charles Theodore and Grace Eleanor (Bell) Hawkins.

Charlie worked for 30 years at General Motors – Allison Division in Indianapolis, where he was a member of UAW 933. Charlie loved to ride his ATV/Rhino with his grandchildren.

Charlie married Jean (Carmichael) Hawkins on January 1, 1965 and she survives along with their two children, Becky Glidden (Chuck) and Charles Randy Hawkins (Paula). Also surviving are his grandchildren; Amanda Jo Sparks (Jeff), Sammi Jo Fritch (Matt), Eric Scott “Scotty” Glidden, and Matt Glidden (Annie), three great grandchildren; Sienna “Gracie” Fritch, Abigail Lynn Fritch, and Rose Glidden, and four sisters; Sharon Rose Simmons, Loretta “JoJo” Wilkerson (Marvin), Dixie Bowling (Hebron), and Carolyn Luther, along with many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and three sisters; Janet Bean, Shirley Wood, and Diana Williams.

Services will be 11:00 am Thursday January 16, 2014 at The Funeral Chapel of Powell and Deckard, 3000 E. Third St. Bloomington. Rev. Rose Sparks will officiate the service and burial will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday January 15, 2014 from 4-8 pm at The Funeral Chapel and Thursday from 9:00 am until service time.
