Seven unmarked graves in the Baker Cemetery (No 5) were relocated by the US Army Corps of Engineers in 1959/60 to the brand new Braxton County Memorial Cemetery prior to the completion of the Sutton Dam. Solomon Baker and Mary, his wife, came from the New River area about 1812. They had several children, only two of whom survived childhood. Mr. Baker settled near the mouth of a run which empties into the Elk about a mile below the site of the old Union Mills which became known as Bakers Run. The Baker graves were neatly aligned in the cemetery which would indicate they were also closely aligned in time. I cannot find any more history of Bakers in that part of the county.
