Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. Civil War records described him as 5 feet 7 inches with grey eyes and reddish hair. His occupation was a clerk. He was killed in action at Weldon RR, Reams Station, Virginia. He served as a Sergeant in the Union Army in Company D, 7th New York Heavy Artillery. He was awarded the CMOH for action on June 3, 1864 at Cold Harbor, Virginia. His medal was issued on December 1, 1864. His citation reads, "Shot a Confederate color bearer, 26th Virginia Infantry, rushed forward and seized his colors, and although exposed to heavy fire, regained the lines in safety."
