The daughter of Joel and Elizabeth Bennett Griffis. The sister to: Sarah "Dolly" Griffis; Dixon; Elizabeth Griffis Brown; John and Noah. The wife of 1) John Westfall 2)? Davis.
Mother of: Charlie Davis (do not know the names of others at this time). According to William J. Powell, he had uncovered information that Nancy Griffis Westfall Davis was a "witch." Nancy's grandmother was a full-blooded Creek Indian medicine Woman. Nancy apparently traveled from home to home chanting and casting spells. She would spend anywhere from a night to a week at the home of one of her relatives and then move on to the next. There are many bizarre tales of her spells. One bizarre story states that Nancy visited the home of a relative. The relative had a herd of goats and Nancy asked him to kill one so that she could have some goat meat. The owner refused to kill the goat. The next morning "the owner awoke and went to feed his goats. Every one of his goats were dead and were lying in pairs with their horns locked together." The owner believed that Nancy had put a "hex" on the goats. Nancy Griffis is buried at the Bethel Cemetery at Boney Bluff Echols County, Georgia. She is buried in an unmarked grave just to the left of the grave of Henry J. Davis, her grandson. Apparently, there were many like Nancy back in her day who went from home to home chanting and casting spells.
