Believe Fire Started From Oil Explosion
To Hold Funeral Service Tuesday with Burial in Oak Grove Cemetery.
LOGAN-- Mrs. Mary Bright, 79, widow of Peter W. Bright, died of burns at Cherrington Hospital at 4:05 a.m. Sunday. The fatal burns were received at her N. Culver St. home about 3:45 o'clock Saturday afternoon when her clothing became ignited. Mrs. Bright was alone and little information was obtained as to how the flames started. It is believed she was attempting to kindle a fire in a stove and poured oil from a lamp on live coals. Joe Robinson, neighbor, observed the woman when she ran to the porch. He went to her aid. She was taken to Cherrington Hospital where it was found the entire surface of her body was seared and that she had breathed flames. When members of the family reached her home, she was conscious, but soon lapsed into unconsciousness. She was the mother of Rolland, Samuel H., James and Charles Bright; Mrs. George Hite and Mrs. Mae Rutter, all of Logan. Half brothers were Sylvester and James Hockman, Marion Township and John Hockman, Bremen. Funeral services will be conducted at the Leonard Funeral Home at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday with the Rev. J. W. Plummer, Strasburg, assisted by the Rev. W. H. Long of this city in charge. Burial will be made in Oak Grove Cemetery. Athens Messenger, March 28, 1938.
