Richard was born in Hazen, ND on July 13, 1942 to David and Ruby (Wing) Jensen. He attended elementary schools at Red Butte, Pick City, Spring Brook, Hazen, along with Lyle, Washington, before graduating from Hazen High School. He attended NDSU before joining the US Navy in 1964. He served on the USS Forrestal for two and a half years in Naval Intelligence.
Richard married Donna Scott on May 28, 1967 in Killdeer, ND. He worked at Basin Electric's Leland Olds Station as a Power Plant Operator until his retirement in 2007. Richard and Donna raised seven children together.
Richard accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior in adulthood and served Him, raising his children to love the Lord.
His hobbies included farming, reading, hunting, and long drives in the country with a Coke, a Baby Ruth, and whatever family was available. He was active in Boy Scouts with his sons and was active in the American Legion during retirement until onset of Dementia in 2010.
Richard is survived by his wife Donna; his sister Leila; and children, Tonja Schlosser, Susan (Richard) Lindberg, Scott (Shawn), Julie, Richard (Lyndsey), and Leah (Nick) Walker; Pete's girlfriend, Whitney; and 16 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents David and Ruby; his sister Sandra; and his son Peter.
