Mrs. Boyer is Buried
Impressive Services Held Today for Well-Known Rocky Grove Woman
Mrs. Rachel Boyer, for 20 years a resident of Rocky Grove, was buried in the Franklin Cemetery Friday afternoon, with six grandsons bearing her body to its resting place, beside the grave of her husband, Jeremiah Boyer. Services in her memory were held at 2 o'clock in the Rocky Grove Church of God. She had been a member of the congregation since its organization here. Her husband and sons were among the most active in founding the church here. A frame building was erected on Maple Street but the growth of the congregation necessitated a larger place and a brick edifice was built on Fox Street. It was in this latter building that the funeral was held. The pastor, B.W. Barcus, was in charge. The impressive service opened with the playing of a variation of "Sweet Bye and Bye," by the church pianist, Mrs. Robert Mong. Rev. Barcus read two hymns, "I'm Happy with Jesus Alone" and Mrs. Boyer's favorite, "Happy Day." The pallbearers were Frank, Boyd, Glenn, Willis, Donald and Walter Boyer. Among the relatives and friends who attended the funeral of Mrs. Rachel Boyer on Friday afternoon were: Mrs. Lucy Coulter, of Knox, Mrs. Boyer's only surviving sister; Mr. and Mrs. Nathan Miller, Knox; Mrs. T. D. Weaver and daughters, Ethel and Hazel, of Emlenton; Mr. and Mrs. William Boyer and Mrs. Donald Boyer, of Salina; Mr. and Mrs. C. N. Boyer, of New Castle; Mr. and Mrs. LaMont Griffin, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Horner, Mrs. Charles Miller, and Mrs. Nellie Barrett, of Oil City. Rev. B. W. Barcus preached the funeral sermon, taking as his text Psalm 90:12 "so teach us to number our days. That we may apply our hearts unto wisdom."
