Ann RESNIK

RESNIK, Ann On March 25, 2022, at Dom Lipa Nursing Home, Etobicoke at the age of 100. She is survived by her children Mario, Majda, Tom, Luci (late Don), Greg (Bernadette) and Monica. Adored by 13 grandchildren: Tim, Michelle, Daniela, Matthew, Andreya, Jonathan, Mateja, Zachary, Bethany, Evan, Cian, Jacob, Ben. Icon to 9 great-grandchildren: Eli, Noah, Noemi, Jaden, Eve, Dylan, Chloe, Wesley, and Vaida.

Predeceased by her husband of 59 years, Rudi, in January 2009. Ani was born just outside Ljulbljana in Stozice. She fled her homeland after World War II in May of 1945, to a refugee camp in Austria. She immigrated to Toronto in 1948. Here she was welcomed into the tiny Slovenian community, where she met Rudi. Ani was a devout Catholic. She accredited her devotion to her faith for the strength to overcome any challenges in her life. She was a leader and activist on many church committees. She worked tirelessly to preserve and promote Slovenian culture and traditions. Of note, she was instrumental in producing the Slovenian pavilion for Toronto's Caravan Festival in the 1960s and 70s. Anica loved the theater and was well known for her acting skills in community productions.

She was a regular contributor to international journals including Slovenska Drzava and Ameriska Domovina. Her writings informed the Slovenian diaspora of our local events and celebrations. Ani was also on the founding Board of Dom Lipa, the Slovenian retirement and nursing home, where she lived for the past six years. In accomplishing so much and volunteering her boundless energy, she influenced us to always do more for our own communities of faith and family.

Mama loved the outdoors, country drives and travelling with Ata. She instilled in her family an appreciation for gardening, long walks, summers at the "The Farma", family gatherings, potica and strudelj. Her beautiful legacy will inspire many generations to come. Rest in Peace.

Friends may call at the Turner & Porter Yorke Chapel, 2357 Bloor St. W., on Tuesday, March 29th, from 4-7 p.m. Funeral Mass will take place at Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal, 739 Browns Line on Wednesday, March 30th, at 10 a.m. Visitation at the church on Wednesday from 9-10 a.m. Interment Assumption Cemetery.
