Gilbert stated that he was of Scottish heritage. Gilbert married Mary Madeline Vandine on April 20, 1850 in Ripley, Jackson County, Virginia (West Virginia). They had six children born to this union. The first four were born in Ripley, they are William K. b.1851, Nancy Alice b.1852, Mary Ellen b.1856, and James Gilbert b.1858. Then the family moved to Crooked Creek, Ray County, Missouri where Gorey Harvey b.1864 and finally Martha b1869 were born. Gilbert took his two oldest sons to Colorado to mine for silver, and after finding ore, moved the entire family to Canon City Colorado about 1871.
Sarah Ann Harvey Cleek married Robert M. Cleek and they stayed in West Virginia. She was born on June 15, 1820 in Mason County, Virginia (present day WV). She married Robert on June 7, 1841 in Jackson County, Virginia (WV), which I believe is the same area of Mason County. The had the following children: Daniel b.1842, Perry b.1842, Mary Catherine b.1845, Margaret b. 1846, Elizabeth b.1847, Phoebe b.1849, Sarah Ann b. 1850, Caroline b.1851, Martha b.1855 and triplets b.1867 - d. 1867
Gilbert and Sarah were very close and wrote letters to each other, which have been recently lost due to the death of a descendant.
Please do NOT link Gilbert Boswell Harvey and Sarah Ann Harvey (Cleek) to Joseph C. Harvey and Rebecca Wilson of Virginia. They are not the parents of Gilbert and Sarah. This is proven through the biography of Joseph's son Dr. Marmion Harvey.
I have not been able to find the parents of Gilbert and Sarah. Gilbert is my GGGrandfather, through his son Gorey Harvey, through his son Nelson Arthur (Truman Arthur) Harvey, and finally my grandfather Truman Philip Harvey.
