James wed Clara Kirby in 1889 they are buried together in Heath Lane Cemetery. Clara died in the flu pandemic 26th Sept 1918 aged 50. James was a jeweller and had a shop at 67 High Street Hemel Hempstead. In 1927 the weather vane on St Marys needed re gilding, James engraved his own name, as well as the rest of the inscription on the repaired weather vane.
