Because of his residence in Campbell County, it is thought Tom was the son of Thomas and Julia Abbott. Siblings were a name beginning with J and a brother, Nathan. It should be noted that Campbellton, Campbell County, Georgia is now Fulton County.

A 1900 Census of this same area shows a marriage to Hattie who was about 29 at the time. In 1910, Fairburn, Campbell County, now Fulton county, Hattie's son, Eugene Hindman, was also living in the home.
