Hall of Fame Professional Ice Hockey Player. He played the right wing position for the National Hockey League's New York Islanders from 1977 to 1987. He started out in junior hockey before he was drafted by the New York Islanders with the 15th pick in the 1977 NHL amateur draft. He went on to play for the Islanders for the ten years before injuries forced him to retire in 1987. During his tenure with the Islanders, he was an important part of the team's Stanley Cup-winning teams from 1980 to 1983. He earned the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP in 1982 and scored the Cup-winning goals in 1982 and 1983. He scored 50 or more goals in each of his first nine seasons. He won the Calder Trophy as rookie of the year, got the Lady Byng Trophy for gentlemanly conduct three times and led the league in goals twice. He was also an eight-time All-Star and finished with 573 goals and 553 assists for 1,126 points in 752 regular-season games. Injuries forced him to retire in 1987 and he was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1991. In 2017, he was named one of the NHL's 100 Greatest Players. He later worked for TVA Sports as a hockey analyst.
