Funeral services for Bengt Hawkinson, an 81-year-old retired farmer of Chisago City who died at his home there last Saturday, were held Tuesday from the chapel off the Zion Lutheran Church. Rev. Constant Johnson pastor of the Chisago City church officiated and remains were laid to rest in the West Green Lake Cemetery.
Mr. Hawkinson's death was attributed to the general infirmities of old age from which he has been suffering for two years. He was born in the Aryd Parish, Blekinge Lan, Sweden, on April 24, 1855. At the age of 29 in the year of 1884, he immigrated to America with this community as his destination and settled on a farm near Stacy. He later moved to a farm near Wyoming where he resided until he moved to Chisago City in 1918. he has lived there since and has been a member of the Zion Lutheran Church since arriving in Chisago. His wife passed away two years ago last October.
For a time the family belonged to a Lutheran Church in Stacy (an Augustana Synod church which has later been dissolved) and upon coming here they united with the Zion Lutheran Church.
Surviving him are five sons and two daughters, namely, August, Ludwig, and Ferdinand Hawkinson of Chisago City, Hjalmer Hawkins of Almelund, Mrs. Ida Alex of Forest Lake and Edward Hawkinson and Mrs. Lillian Carlson of Minneapolis. Carl, another son died in France in 1918. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild and many other friends and relatives.
Those who acted as pallbearers at the funeral services were: Joseph Magnuson, Oscar Magnuson, William Almberg, Alfred Benson, Albert Peterson, and N. P. Peterson. Taking part in the singing were Mrs. A. O. Peterson and Mrs. Arthur W. Peterson.
