Elizabeth J. (Houy) Zapko, 93, formerly of Hopewell Twp., passed away Thursday, April 14, 2022, at Franciscan Manor, where she resided since August of last year.

Born July 11, 1928, McKeesport, a daughter of the late Paul and Anna (McConeghy) Houy, she was a member of St. George Byzantine Catholic Church in Aliquippa.

Betty was an excellent homemaker and a talented baker, specializing in baking breads and buns.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Michael Zapko, Sr., a grandson, Zacharia; three brothers, Patrick, Kenneth, and Robert, and two sisters, Shirley and Eva.

She will be sadly missed by her children, Michael Jr. (Patti) Zapko, Patricia (John) Kubera, Deborah (Joe) Chapla, and Robert (Cathy) Zapko; eight grandchildren, Ryan, Lauren, John Michael, Mark, David, Natalie, Alexandra and Kasey, many loving great grandchildren; a brother, James Houy, and a sister, Marylou Bernhardy.

Family and friends will gather Wednesday, April 20, 2022, at St. George Byzantine Catholic Church, 1001 Clinton St., Aliquippa, PA, 15001, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11am, with Fr. Geoffrey Mackey, officiating.

Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery, Hopewell Twp.
