1888 - He married Nettie Etmeyer (b: ????-1917). Their known children are:

DESPONDENCY OVER HEALTH BLAMED FOR SUICIDE -
Despondency resulting from a chronic illness, which had reached a condition from which he had been informed there was no relief, is believed to have been the cause of John Persons, Mina farmer, taking his own life. Mr. Persons committed the rash act in the barn at his home by using a 32. calibre revolver.
Mr. Persons had gone to the barn to do some work and when he failed to return aftter some time his wife went to investigate. She found the body on the floor with a bullet from the revolver having entered the forehead and in and probably causing instant death. the body was found at about 9:30 Sunday morning. Dr. Finn of Findley Lake was called and issued a certificate of death by suicide.
Mr. Persons was well known throughout this section of the county having resided in Sherman, Findley Lake and Mina. The deceased had a wide circle of friends and held the respect of all those who at any time had made his acquaintance. He settled in this section when but a young man coming here from Sweden, and in early life followed the mason trade, and in later years took up farming. In 1888 he was united in marriage to Nettie Etmeyer and to them were born seven children of whom six survive, as follows: Paul Persons, of Mina, George Persons of North East, Mrs. Anna Cady of Sherman, Lee Persons of North Clymer, Perry Persons and Mrs. Edna Olfen of Canton, Ohio. His wife died in 1917 and in 1919 he was married a second time to Mrs. Anna Anderson, who survives. Two half brothers, Charles Persons of Akeley, ?a., and Alfred Persons of Mina, one sister in Sweden and thirteen grandchildren also survive.
Mr. Persons was a member of Sherman Lodge of Odd Fellows and Findley Lake Grange. The funeral was had from the late home Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock in charge of Rev. Erickson of Jamestown, with Sherman Lodge of Odd Fellows conducting the services at the grave. Those who acted as bearers were A. F. Coleman, Arthur Bock, C. M. Ketchum, C. F.
