Nancy C. Ratajczak, 82, of Laflin, died peacefully in Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center on Tuesday, May 3, 2022, after her long and tiring battle with cancer.

She was born April 21, 1940, in Meckesville, daughter of the late Clyde L. Kibler and Anna L. Knappenberger-Kibler-Haney. After graduating from Jim Thorpe High School in 1958, she obtained her license in cosmetology from Empire Beauty School in Wilkes-Barre. It was there she met her husband of 58 years, John F. Ratajczak. After their wedding in June 1962, Nancy and John began to start a family. While living in Wilkes-Barre for a few years, Nancy and John built one of the first homes in the Oakwood Park section of Laflin. Nancy and John started their own barber/beauty salon in Wilkes-Barre and also opened a second salon in Kingston. Unfortunately, the Agnes flood of 1972 destroyed the second business. After the flood they renamed their business Hair Associates, which they would operate for more than 30 years together.

Some of her favorite pastimes were tennis, walking, cooking, sewing, quilting, interior decorating, vacationing and spending time with her friends and family. She was a devout member of St. Maria Goretti Parish, Laflin, where she always had time to volunteer for the many bazaars and events.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Alice Getz, Gladys Getz and Edna Brong; and her brothers, Richard Kibler and Claire Kibler.

She is survived by her husband, John F. Ratajczak; her daughter, Renee M. Musto and her husband, Ronald; son, John D. Ratajczak and his wife, Mary Ann; sisters, Melva McGardle; and Gloria Annawalt; her grandsons, John A. Ratajczak; Evan and Kyle Musto; and her great-grandson, Carson John Ratajczak.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Maria Goretti Church, 42 Redwood Drive, Laflin, with the Rev. Alex Roche, pastor, officiating. The Parish Rosary Group will pray the Divine Mercy Chaplet and rosary in the church 30 minutes before the Mass. All are invited to attend. Interment will be held in St. Mary's Maternity Cemetery, West Wyoming. Family and friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Corcoran Funeral Home Inc., 20 S. Main St., Plains Twp.
