Obituary
Dorothy "Dot" T. Prater, 81, of Irmo, SC passed away Sunday, May 1st, 2022. Born in Lexington County on March 19, 1941, she was the daughter of the late Nathaniel Neal Taylor and Juel Roxiana Quick Taylor. Dorothy was a member of Mount Olive Lutheran Church. She attended Brookland-Cayce High School, graduated from Columbia High School (1960), and got her college degree from Midlands Technical College in Criminal Justice (1989). She served in the 360 Civil Affairs, United States Army Reserves as a Sergeant for 15 years. She graduated from civil affairs training at the John F. Kennedy special warfare center and school (1988) and graduated Non-Commissioned Officers Development Training at Fort Jackson, SC. Dorothy was a retired accountant for DSS in Columbia, SC. She had also worked for the Internal Revenue Service and South Carolina National Bank. She was a Guardian ad Litem in Kershaw County and Victims Assistance Advocate for Lexington County Solicitor's Office. Dorothy was a member of the master gardeners through Clemson University's Cooperative Extension Service and loved learning and educating people about gardening and horticulture. Dorothy was an advocate for the fair treatment of all animals and had a special love for horses and her dog, Bobo.

She is survived by her husband of 35 years, Kenneth Michael "Mike" Prater; sons, Frank "Frankie" Homer Taylor Jr. (Peggy) of Red Bank, SC, and Edward "Neal" Taylor (Jeannine) of West Columbia, SC; daughters, Michelle Prater Stone (John) of Pendleton, SC, and Beverly Prater Madden (Michael) of Liberty, SC; sisters, Roxiana "Ann" T. Cameron (Richard "Dick") and Trudy Diane Taylor Smith (Ben, deceased) of Irmo, SC; grandchildren, William "Billy" Devon Page of Lexington, SC, Jenny Page Snelgrove (Micheal) of West Columbia, SC, Robert "Bobby" Ellis Page (Jessica) of West Columbia, SC, Codee Odessa Yeske (Alison) of Beaufort, SC, Victoria Stone Moxley (Ronald) of Pendleton, SC, Taylor Storm Taylor of West Columbia, SC, Tucker Alfred Stone (Madison) of Pendleton, SC, Cody Michael Stone of Pendleton, SC, London Emma Lane of Liberty, SC, and Joseph Maldonado Taylor of Gilbert, SC; and great grandchildren, Jacob (Bobby & Jessica), Adalyn (Billy & Lauren), Liam & Cora (Jenny & Micheal), Olivia & Waylon (Victoria & Ronald), Aiden & Walker (Tucker & Madison).

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 21st, 2022, followed by the service starting at 11 a.m. at Mount Olive Lutheran Church. Barr-Price Funeral Home and Crematorium, Lexington Chapel, is assisting the family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, 1541 Lake Murray Boulevard, Irmo, SC 29063.
