3360 Private C Floyd, 1st Battalion the Oxfordshire Light Infantry. The battalion deployed to South Africa for the Second Anglo Boer War, sailing on the Gaika on 22 Dec 1899, and arrived at Cape Town on 13 Jan 1900. Along with the 2nd East Kent, 2nd Gloucesters, and 1st West Riding Regiment, they formed the 13th Brigade under Major General C E Knox. They joined the main army for the advance to Bloemfontein and Pretoria, and were immediately in action with Cronje's rear-guard on 16 Feb 1900 as they crossed the Modder River at Klip Drift, just before the battle of Paardeberg (18-27 Feb 1900). Private Floyd was wounded in action at Klip Drift on 16 Feb 1900. He died of his wounds on 17 Feb 1900. He was buried on the battlefield.
