Henry Seebohm, F.L.S., F.Z.S., was a notable English steel manufacturer who distinguished himself as an amateur ornithologist, oologist, and traveller. His passion for natural history, which began during his school years, led him to travel extensively and study birds across various regions including Greece, Scandinavia, Turkey, and South Africa. His significant contributions to ornithology include pioneering expeditions to the Yenisey tundra of Siberia, detailed in his works "Siberia in Europe" and "Siberia in Asia". These expeditions contributed to the posthumous publication "The Birds of Siberia". Seebohm's legacy in the field is further cemented by his acceptance of the American trinomial system for classifying sub-species and his extensive collection of bird-skins, which he bequeathed to the British Museum. This collection, received in 1896, comprised nearly 17,000 specimens. A number of bird species have been named in his honour, reflecting the lasting impact of his work on ornithology.
