Gladys E (Alexander) Smiley was born on August 3, 1894 in Tennessee, and she was the daughter of Horace Leroy Alexander (1851–1904) and Martha Elliston (Cullom) Alexander (1859–1951).
She was married to Physic Carter Smiley (1886–1936), the son of Charles Evans Smiley (1857–1933) and Annie (Mathes) Smiley (1870–1913).
A saleslady in a department store and living at 111 East Cedar Street in Nashville, Davidson County, Gladys was 69 years old and a widow when she died of a perforated esophagus at Baptist Hospital.
Survivors included her brother James P Alexander in Santa Monica, California, nieces Mrs C V Baker of Lebanon, Tennessee, Mrs Jimmie DeLay in Atlanta, Georgia and Mrs Martha Avery in Los Angeles, California, nephews Robert C Lowe Jr at Atlanta, Georgia, Jimmy Alexander in Santa Monica, California and Thomas Alexander of Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
Funeral Services were held on October 14th at Goodlettsville Cumberland Presbyterian Church, and both her Death Certificate and her published obituary have her burial in Spring Hill Cemetery, Nashville as verified by a phone call to that cemetery's administration office on May 17, 2022. However, a similar call to the administration office of Daytona Memorial Park cemetery in Daytona Beach, Florida verified that she was buried in THAT Florida cemetery!!
