"Mrs. Mary Cravens Passes to her Reward
Mrs. Mary Cravens who has been making her home in Orion for the past seven years lived for some time past at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Gust Johnson, died at 6:30 Sunday morning. ??? following an illness of about a year with cancer of the stomach which had been gradually gaining her strength until she peacefully passed away at the time stated.
Mrs. Cravens whose maiden name was Mary Harshman was born at Connelsville Penn May 25, 1847. Age at death was 68 years 11 months and 5 days of age. She was united in marriage to Thomas Cravens on March 10, 1864 and they resided in the vicinity of Woodhull and Wataga until coming to Orion seven years ago. Mr. Cravens died at the home of his son in Alpha Sept 4, 1911.
Mrs. Cravens was the mother of six children, David H. of Alpha; Mrs. Sarah Wiklins of Oneida, Mrs. Edwards now deceased, Mrs. Margaret Hegstrom of Alta, Mich, Mrs. Minnie Frome of Wataga, and Mrs. Anna Johnson of Orion. There are ? grand children and 13 great grand children.
For a long time previous to her death, she manifested a spirit of Christian fortitude. Through her such suffering she was patient and uncomplaining. Even in the last moments of consciousness she was exultant and triumphant in faith.
"Dearest mother thou has left us,
And thy loss we deeply feel,
But the one that has bereft us
He can all our sorrows heal."
Funeral services were held from the Gust Johnson home at 1:30 yesterday afternoon. Rev. Wood of ?don, her former pastor at Wataga, officiating. The remains were taken in the afternoon train to Alpha for burial by the side of her late husband."
