HARDIN - Leo Becker, 82, longtime Hardin resident, passed away Friday, Aug. 16, 2002, in the Big Horn County Memorial Nursing Home.
He was born April 5, 1920, in Napoleon, N.D., a son of August and Christina Ketterling Becker. He grew up and attended school in Napoleon. He moved with his parents to Hardin in 1939, where he met the love of his life, Selma Emilie Horning. They were married on Sept. 23, 1941, and were blessed with seven wonderful children.
Leo and Selma began their life together farming south of Hardin. He worked at various jobs over the years and eventually began his own business. He was a self-taught upholsterer and had Leo's Upholstery Shop for many years. He will always be remembered for his beautiful upholstery work and wood crafting.
He loved to fish, camp, play the harmonica and spend time with his family. He treasured his daily rides with Selma and his son, Dale, and looked forward to their trips to South Dakota. Some of his most treasured memories were the polka and waltz dances he and Selma loved to attend. They were often called the "Best Polka Dancers" in Hardin.
His parents, a brother, Joseph, and a great-granddaughter, Madison, preceded Leo in death.
Leo's greatest joy was his wife and his family. He was the best husband, father and grandpa anyone could have wanted. He is survived by his wife, Selma; their seven children, Jerry (Heidi) Becker of Aurora, Colo., Ronnie (Sid) Becker of Elon College, N.C., Dale (Diane) Becker of Hardin, Gary (Angie) Becker of Red Lodge, Shirley (Tom) Denny of Colstrip, Debby Kennedy of Anchorage, Alaska, and Bonnie Drake (special friend, Lonnie Vandersloot) of Hardin; six sisters, Esther Christman of Napoleon, N.D., Violet (Jake) Flegler of Billings, Delores (Dick) Roebling of Colstrip, Christine Zimmerman, Lucille Hankel and Lorraine (Vic) Nedens of Hardin; 14 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Monday in the Bullis Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery. Bullis Mortuary of Hardin has been entrusted with the arrangements.
