Physician. Made warnings about the seriousness of the new coronavirus on a
social media site and said healthcare workers should wear protective clothing
when caring for patients. Chinese police told him to stop, indicating he was
making false comments and spreading rumors. The police made him sign the
following: "We solemnly warn you: If you keep being stubborn, with such
impertinence, and continue this illegal activity, you will be brought to justice - is
that understood?" Underneath in Dr Li's handwriting is written: "Yes, I do." A
short time later Dr. Wenliang contracted the virus from a patient. He was
hospitalized and treated but died three weeks later. Following his death, he was
hailed as a hero for raising the alarm about the new coronavirus.
