"Harvey A Davis, 89, resident of El Paso, Texas, for the past five years, died on Saturday, April 29, 1985 (sic) [Friday, April 19, 1985]. He was born Feb 19, 1896, in Spartansburg, the son of the late Weldon and Alice Ainsworth Davis. Mr Davis graduated from Edinboro State Teachers College and taught school for a short time. He was superintendent of Jamestown schools for 17 years. He was a veteran of World War I. He returned to school for his masters degree at the University of Pennsylvania and then returned to the Jamestown School District. He served in the US Navy in World War II as a bacteriologist. After the war he worked at Bio Labs in Fort Detrich, Frederick, Md. He retired at the age of 72. He was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church in El Paso, AARP, American Legion in Texas and a former member of the American Legion in Corry [Pa], and was once a member of World War Barracks in Corry. He is survived by his wife, Jessie Davis, whom he married in 1920; one son, Charles Davis of Dryden, NY; two daughters, Mary Davis of Chicago, Ill, [and] Helen Mott of El Paso; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Rosalie Vollmer. The Bracken Funeral Home in Spartansburg announced that memorial services will be conducted at Rose Hill Cemetery in Spartansburg, Saturday at 2 pm with Rev Barry Weyant, pastor of the Spartansburg United Methodist Church, officiating."
