Mrs. Bertha M. Short, 74, of 70 Hayes Street, died at 8:30 o'clock last night at City Hospital after a short illness caused by a heart condition.

She was the mother of the Rev. J. Harold Gamble of the Hayes Street address, pastor of the Conklin Avenue Baptist Church. Mrs. Short resided part of the time with her son and part of the time with a daughter, Mrs. Clifton Sapp of Detroit, Mich., in recent years.

Her son will officiate at funeral services at 2 p. m. tomorrow at the Frank J. Kelly Funeral Home, 152 Conklin Avenue. The body will be taken to Detroit for another service at 2 p. m. Wednesday at the Schmalzriedt Sons' Funeral Home there with the Rev. Warner Cole officiating. Burial will be in Park-view Memorial Cemetery, Detroit.

Mrs. Gamble was a member of the Conklin Avenue church and its Philathea Bible Class. She lived in Buffalo much of her life and was long active in Baptist activities.

She was the widow of Joseph Henry Gamble, who died in 1922, and later married J. Warren Short, who died 11 years ago. Her son has lived in Binghamton about three years.

Surviving besides her son and daughter are two sisters, Mrs. John VanSyckle of Union, Ontario, Canada, and Mrs. Frank McLarty of West Lorne, Ontario; three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
