Funeral services for Mr. Cayce Bufkin, Jr. will begin at 11:00 am on Thursday, June 2, 2022 at Hickory Baptist Church under the direction of Newton County Funeral Home. Dr. Randy Rich will officiate.
Masonic rites will be conducted at the graveside in Hickory Cemetery for the Mason of 68 years, initiations in Masonry, Master and Past, September 3, 1954, passed October 1, 1954, raised November 19, 1954, in a short span of just over three months in Mellen Lodge #138, where he actively participated until his passing. He was a former member of the Hickory Lodge #343.
Born July 3, 1931 in Stringer, Mr. Bufkin passed away at his home on Saturday, May 28, 2022 at the age of 90.
He is survived by his loving, dedicated wife of 73 years, Mrs. Mary Evelyn Johnson Bufkin; one sister: Clara Thomas Sandifer; two daughters: Mary Ann (Davis) Bond and Janice Irene Gully; one son: Cayce Wayne (Debra) Bufkin; eight loving grandchildren: Chad (Jennifer) Bond, Chris (Robin) Bond, Cayce Ann Bond (Adam) Lane, Jennifer (Dewayne) McCallister, Amanda (Brian) Burroughs, Dillon (Tracy) Gully, Brian (Kalla) Bufkin, and April Bufkin (Mark) Walker; twenty great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law: Mrs. Carol Bufkin.
Preceding him in death are his parents: Cayce Bufkin, Sr., and Jimmy Laura Mosely Bufkin; one son-in-law: Robert Mitchell Gully; one brother: Bruce Bufkin; two brothers-in-law: Tommy Thomas and Maxie Sandifer and parents-in-law: David Houston Johnson and Mabel Moore Johnson.
Mr. Bufkin worked for forty years at Flintkote Company/Owen Corning Fiberglass Company. During his retirement years, one of the highlights were meeting with his former co-workers to reminisce about fun times, which brought about much laughter. A "people person," Mr. Cayce loved meeting people and talking to each and every one he met. Even though his vision impairments in recent years, led to blindness, Mr. Cayce enjoyed life to the fullest, as much as his physical limitations would allow. He was loved by his family, who will miss him daily, and he will be remembered for generations to come by many friends and former co-workers.
Mr. Bufkin was a Christian by testimony of his faith, and a longtime member of Hickory Baptist Church.
Chad Bond, Chris Bond, Adam Lane, Brian Bufkin, Mark Walker, Dillon Gully, Brian Burroughs, and Dewayne McCallister will serve as pallbearers.
