Born in Tennessee; died at age 76

Died, on the 11th instant, in Greene county, Illinois, Mrs. Emily Fry, relict of the late Gen. Jacob Fry, in the 72nd year of her age. She was buried yesterday at Oak Ridge cemetery. Less than three months we chronicled the death of Gen. Fry and now we record the sad decrease of his bereaved widow. Many hearts in Chicago, Ottowa, and elsewhere will be saddened at the news. She was the daughter of Gen. James Turney, formerly Attorney General of Illinois, and adorned the home circle, whether as maiden or wife. In her 16th year she was united in marriage to Gen. Fry, and was a helpmeet any man would be proud of. She leaves three sons and two daughters, among whom are some of the honored names of our common country. Her home was a happy one, and was the centre of refinement and culture, being noted for its princely and generous hospitality. Alas! that nothing remains of this beautiful home but a memory. It was fitting, after more than a half century of married life those kindred souls should be reunited in "a land that is fairer than day", and their mortality lie side by side awaiting the resurrection. Mrs. Fry was a devout member of the Christian Church and died in the faith of that communion, and her death was peaceful and serene. We thus see the pioneers of Illinois passing away. We should cherish their memories and perpetuate their deeds in story and song, and to the living speak tender words as they journey feebly and slow adown the hill of life. For a nobler, braver, better race never founded or peopled an Empire than the pioneers of our noble commonwealth. Pub. in Illinois State Journal, Springfield, IL, 4-15-1881
