Kathryn Burns Decker Dies;
Was ill Long Time
She was former member of the state Democratic State committee from Lackawanna County
Mrs. Kathryn Burns Decker of 1719 Mulberry Street, one of the city's most widely known women and active in Democratic affairs here for many years died at her home last night following a long illness. She was the former Vice principal of Whittier #2 School, Orchard Street. A native of the city, Mrs. Decker was the daughter of the late James and Bridget McHale Burns. Her husband the late William H. Decker, a Lackawanna railroad engineer for many years died nearly 8 years ago.
Mrs. Decker was a former member of the Democratic State Committee from Lackawanna County and a former vice chairman of the Democratic City Committee. Prior to her illness she had been employed in the state inheritance tax office. She also served as a member of the Democratic City Committee from the 17th ward.
Mrs. Decker formerly taught in Whittier School. She was president of the Catholic Charity Guild, a member of St. Theresa's Home, Tobyhanna, and a member of the Catholic Women's Club, she was also active in Scranton Chapter of the American Red Cross. Mrs. Decker is a member of St. Peter's Cathedral and its women's societies. Surviving are her daughter Rosalie at home; 2 sons Private Wm. E. Decker, New Cumberland and Harry J. Cranford, N.J.; 3 sisters, Mrs. B. Schall and Mrs. L.E Renard, Glenburn and miss Nellie Burns this city; 2 aunts, Mrs. Rose Page and Miss Nora McHale this city and 2 grandchildren.
The body will be removed to the home of Mrs. Decker's aunt, Miss Nora McHale 636 Moosic Street. The funeral will be from St. Peter's Cathedral. Interment will be in Cathedral Cemetery.
