Lela Beazley Warner was born on a farm one mile south of Washta on May 8, 1926 to Merle and Martha Beazley. She was fortunate to have an older sister, Wanda, who was her lifelong friend. Many great times spent with Wanda and her husband, Norman. Merle and Martha farmed until the drought of 1937, then moved the family to Los Angeles, California in search of work. Two years later, they returned to Iowa and the farming life.

After graduating from Washta High School in 1943, the family again moved to San Bruno, Calif where they lived for 3 years and then back to Washta Iowa. She was united in marriage to Delmar Leigh Warner on July 28, 1946, where they made Storm Lake, Iowa their first home. Lela became a Girl Scout leader and worked for Gambel Stores. In 1949, they started farming and became a member of Washta Rebecca's Lodge. Their daughter Brenda was also born in 1949 at Cherokee, Iowa Hospital.

In 1956, another drought hit and they moved to Belmont, California, where Lela worked in the Belmont School System and San Mateo County Registration and Election division. After 25 years they returned to Storm Lake and lived there until November of 2014, when they moved to Santa Rosa Ca to be closer to family.
