From the Daily National Intelligencer (Washington, DC) of Dec 28, 1826:
"[Died] On the 15th instant, in the 55th year of her age, Mrs. ANN RITCHIE, the wife of the late Colonel John Ritchie, of Fredericktown, Md. It was our painful duty, one month since, to announce the death of Col John Ritchie, and to deplore, in common with all who knew him, the loss of a citizen distinguished as he was for piety, patriotism, and all the social and domestic virtues. But little did we think that, so soon, almost before his knell had ceased to vibrate on our ears, we should be summoned to the grave of his amiable and affectionate relict; and also to record our tribute to her worth. During the life of her widowed mother, she endeared hers. If as a daughter by her affection and devotion to her. As a wife, a mother, and a mistress, she won and held the hearts thus related to her. As a friend, she was beloved, consulted, and confided in, never betraying the confidence reposed. And, as a Christian, meekness, fortitude, unwavering faith, and untiring zeal, shone forth in her with striking and attractive lustre."
