Archeologist. He was a pioneer of modern archeology in Mexico. Sabino Venustiano Francisco Paula Leopoldo Batres Huerta was a Mexican anthropologist, archaeologist, and military man known for his excavations at Teotihuacán during the period known as the Porfiriato. He participated in archaeological missions in Monte Albán, Mitla, La Quemada, Xochicalco, the Island of Sacrifices, the Center of Mexico City, and Teotihuacán, where he built the first Site Museum in Mexico and was responsible for the reconstruction of the Pyramid of the Sun, which caused great controversy at the time when as it was distorted. Starting in 1906, he published at least ten books on his finds.
