The date of marriage for Toyoichi Kuroda and Sekino Mishima is not known, but probably circa 1907 – 1911 in Hawaii.
According to the 1930 Federal census, Toyoichi Kuroda, age 47, was working as a mill hand(?) at a sugar mill. Sekino Kuroda, age 43, did not list an occupation. They had the following children living with them in Ewa, Honolulu County, Hawaii: Mineso Kuroda, age 19; Tsuniko Kuroda, age 17; Haruyaki Kuroda, age 14; Haruto Kuroda, age 12; Haruso Kuroda, age 10; Toshio Kuroda, age 8; Toshiaki Kuroda, age 3; Toshea Kuroda, age 1; and boarder Hisao Mishima, age 22 (possible relative of Sekino?). They had six sons and two daughters (daughters were Tsuniko and Toshea).
According to the 1940 Federal census, Toyoichi Kuroda, age 57, was working as a fire room foreman. His wife Sekino Kuroda, age 54, did not list an occupation. Living with them in Ewa, Honolulu County, Hawaii were their children: daughter Tsuneko Kuroda, age 27, working as a salesgirl; sons Haruto Kuroda, age 22 and Haruso Kuroda, age 19, were both working as attendants at a gas station. Their two younger sons Toshio Kuroda, age 17 and Toshiyuki Kuroda, age 13, as well as youngest daughter Toshie Kuroda, age 4, were all attending school.
His son Robert Toshi Kuroda died on October 20, 1944, in Bruyeres, Lorraine, France. He was a member of the 442nd. According to an obituary published in the Honolulu Star-Bulletin on November 11, 1944, a memorial service was held for him on November 12, 1944, at the Aiea Hongwanji and Aiea Community Church. He had been a graduate of Farrington High School Class of 1938 and employed at the Honolulu Plantation Co before volunteering in March 1943 for the 442nd. One brother Haruto was fighting in France and another brother, Haruso, was going through basic training at Schofield Barracks.
Sekino Kuroda died on February 2, 1961, in Aiea, Honolulu County, Hawaii. She was 74 years old at the time of her death. She was cremated and buried at Mililani Memorial Park. She was survived by her husband, six sons and two daughters, twenty grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
