He was Turkey's ambassador to Greece, the USSR, and France and Turkey's Permanent Representative to the UN in New York. He also served as the Commissioner General of UNWRA (1991 to 1996). He retired from diplomatic service in 1991. He was married twice and had two children by his first wife. He passed away in Istanbul at the age of 94.
