Donald Newton, age 82 of Sayreville, passed away Sunday, July 24, 2022 at his home. Born in his home on Dane St. in Sayreville, he was a lifelong borough resident. He was a proud graduate of Our Lady of Victories School and Sayreville High School Class of 1957. Don was one of the last employees of Sayre and Fisher Brick Co., where he worked as an electrician. He then worked for JCP&L as an electrician and retired from First Energy as a Fire Protection Supervisor. He was a proud US Navy Veteran and a member of the Sayreville American Legion Post 211. He enjoyed his time as Secretary of the Sayreville Sportsman, a member of the Stalkers Rod & Run Club and the South River Pistol Club. He was always found with a smile on his face and a kind word for others. He was a lifelong communicant of Our Lady of Victories RC Church in Sayreville.
Don dedicated his life to family and community. He served Sayreville throughout the years in many ways. He was Vice Chairman of the Sayreville Economic Redevelopment Agency, a member of the Open Space Committee, he was the Democratic Committeeman District 18 for over 40 years, a member of the Emergency Management Team, the Middlesex County Transportation Coordinating Committee, the Community Development Block Grant Committee, the Planning Board, the Lower Raritan Watershed Area Steering Committee, the Zoning Review Advisory Committee, the L.E.P.C., and the Environmental Commission.
He is predeceased by his parents Ernest and Alice Newton and his siblings John, Alice, James and Thomas.
Surviving are his beloved wife of 55 years, the former Marcia Ann Rzigalinski, his son Donald and his girlfriend Nerea Champion, his daughters and their husbands Kimberly Newton Currie and Jason, Pamela Lubeski and Matthew, Nicole Schuck and Walter, his grandchildren Matthew, Michael, Faith, Naiya, Aila, Morgan, Macy Ella, his sisters Maryann Newton-Cmielewski, Elizabeth Newton-Schulmeister, and many nieces, nephews and friends who will miss his dearly.
Funeral services will be Friday 10am from the Maliszewski Memorial Home 121 Main St. Sayreville with a 10:30am Mass at Our Lady of Victories RC Church. Burial will follow at New Calvary Cemetery in Parlin.
Calling hours at the funeral home will be Thursday from 3pm to 7pm.
