Delmer "Del" Schroeder, 78, of Embarrass, died Friday, Sept. 26, 2008, at his home after fighting cancer courageously with love from his family surrounding him always in all ways.

Delmer "Del" Edward Schroeder was born July 7, 1930, to Henry and Mary (Lachinski) Schroeder in Lakin Township, Minn. He was raised on a farm, attended a rural school and graduated from Milaca High School. He married his sweetheart, Darlene Johnson, in 1951. He served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. When he was discharged in 1955, he and Darlene moved to Embarrass, where he remained until he died. Delmer worked for Foley Construction Co., sold Polaris snowmobiles, did masonry work, and managed Del's Mileage Service Station. He was employed by Reserve Mining Co., until an injury at work caused early retirement. Delmer was a charter member of the Embarrass Region Volunteer Fire Department. He was an active member of Embarrass Evangelical Lutheran Church and served several terms on the church council. Delmer loved hunting and fishing and enjoyed trips with his friends and family to hunt moose and elk. He took his family on many camping trips. He was a good friend and knew the goodness of friends. He had a friendship of many years with his good and loyal buddy, George Waisanen.

Delmer raised his children with his wisdom of common sense, by example and lots of love. He lived his life honestly with dignity and strength from his faith and trust in God. He cherished his wife and large family. They loved and respected him. They miss him and know they'll see him again in Heaven.

Delmer is survived by his wife, Darlene; and their children, Robin (Dr. Daniel) Ramquist, Robert (RoseMary), Rebecca (Mark) Semeja, Richard (Deb), Randall (Val), Ronald (Loralee), and Ramona Skoglund; grandchildren and great-grandchildren including steps, Adam, Gus (Nicole), Chevelle, Lance, Chad (Dana), Christian, Bree, Bryce, Karl, Keira, Kevin (Amy), Logan, Isak, Georgina (Rick), Brody, Kali, David, Jonathan, Martin (fiancee Marcy), Catherine (Nick), Isabelle, Gloria, Kyle, Laura, Kristine, Nicolle (Dustin), Jacob, Autumn, Quinn, Eric, Sarah, Jorey, Janae, Jaylun, Jerica, Jasalee, Damian, Naspen, Jasmine, Josh (Michelle), Lovelle, Laura Anne, Wade, and Brandon; his siblings, Gerald (Theresa), Rosemarie (Dale) Starr, Merle, Donald (Carol); and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Myron; former daughter-in-law, Sharon (Alaspa) Schroeder Niemi; and grandson, James Roydon Miller.
