Ann (nee Lamb) was the daughter of William Lamb and Elizabeth (nee Briggs). In 1837, she married Eccles-born tailor, Joseph Gregory. Because of the Marriage Act of 1753, which was still in effect at the time, Ann and Joseph were legally married at Manchester's Anglican St John's Church in January, and then, ten months later, in a Catholic ceremony at All Saints Church in Barton.
During their 20-year marriage (Ann died in 1857), the Gregory family lived in Eccles on Church Street. They had at least nine children, three of whom (John, William and Joseph) and are buried in this grave. Though it can be presumed that Ann is also buried in this grave, no record exists to establish that with any certainty.
In 1871, at age 57, Joseph married spinster Mary Ann Blackburn, a silk winder who had, for many years, lived next door to the Gregory family on Church Street. He continued working as a tailor, subsequently at 75 Market Street, Eccles. Joseph died in 1893, Mary Ann in 1898. All Saints Church records include burial entries for Joseph and Mary Ann, and it can be assumed that both are buried together in this gave.
