Jerald J. Spooler
February 5, 1942 ~ August 30, 2022 (age 80)

Jerald J. Spooler, 80, of Jackson, passed away Tuesday, August 30, 2022, at the Jackson Manor Nursing Home in Jackson.

He was born February 5, 1942, in Leopold, Missouri, to Benjamin J. and Clara Beel Spooler. He and Joann Eldracher were married November 24, 1962, at St. John's Catholic Church in Leopold.

Jerald worked 33 years as a detail man at Cape GMC Pontiac. After retirement, he worked three years, part-time, for Jackson City Parks. He thoroughly enjoyed working with his family at his daughter's restaurant, Sandy's Place, in Cape Girardeau. He always joked that he would retire for good when he turned 70.

Jerald enjoyed cutting wood, fishing, mowing, and auto detailing, but above all, he loved being with Joann and spending time with the kids and grandkids. When he wasn't working, he could usually be found on the swing or in a lawn chair, listening to Cardinals baseball or some good ole' country music.

Loving survivors include his wife of nearly 60 years, Joann Spooler of Jackson; four children, Sandy (Tony) Ladd of Jackson, Ron (Susan) Spooler of Cape Girardeau, Debbie (Keith) Litchfield of Jackson, Donna (Steven) Michelson of Millersville; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Charles (Gayle) Spooler of Marble Hill, Leonard (Louise) Spooler of Cape Girardeau; a sister-in-law, Judie (Ronald) Leslie of Laflin, Missouri.

He was preceded in death by an infant great-granddaughter, Thea Litchfield; two brothers, Elmer (Vanita) Spooler and Lester (Anna Clara) Spooler; a young sister, Minnie Spooler; an infant brother, Eugene Spooler; and his parents.

Visitation is from 9:15 to 11:15 a.m., Saturday, September 3, 2022, at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.

The Rev. Randolph Tochtrop will celebrate funeral Mass at 12 p.m., Saturday, September 3, 2022, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Jackson. Interment will follow at Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.
